With approximately US$29 billion in assets under management and employing over 260 staff, Winton has established an enviable position by investing in research infrastructure and capacity.

 

Close to half of those employed are directly involved in research and thanks to the organisation’s flat hierarchy and links with the world’s top universities, Winton has cultivated a singular, academic environment that helps employees to thrive in today’s competitive global finance industry.

 

 

 

Time to pause and reflect
How do you create time for science and IT candidates to stop and examine their prospects? Or put differently, how do you make Winton the career of choice for specialists in a sector they might not normally consider? Winton’s researchers hail from over 25 countries and hold postgraduate degrees in as diverse fields as operations research, statistics, climatology, actuarial science, extragalactic astrophysics and financial mathematics. Historically, their recruitment drive would be through referral and recruitment stands at specific technology or research led events. However, with the growth of social sites it was evident that Winton would have to reconsider their existing recruitment strategy.

 

 

 

Imagine, Research, Act
Developed around a core message summed up in three words: IMAGINE, RESEARCH, ACT, we employed a bespoke Brand Model Guide to drive the recruitment campaign. From the model, the core message was then distilled down further to arrive at the essence of the recruitment campaign LOOK BEYOND.

 

 

 

Look Beyond
Look Beyond captures the inquisitive nature of researchers and developers where ‘the search to find new, better ways’ in predicting future outcomes based on recognising patterns with algorithms is central to achieving results and to tapping into the reward-fulfilment instinct.

 

Interpreting LOOK BEYOND across the different touch points was key to creating a seamless conversation that would build user engagement. Also important to its success was harnessing a deeper understanding of Winton’s core values and its culture to make conversations become more compelling.

 

 

 

Buddy App
A bespoke app was created to offer prospects further insights into the company and to help them each identify their ideal opportunity. Integrated into the app is a buddy system that allows new candidates to sign-in and be teamed up with an internal guide. The buddy helps the candidate navigate the different company divisions and business areas while experiencing a dynamic and cutting edge environment. All the information and content regarding Winton and its opportunities are experienced via a short animation. To drive the app, a bespoke CMS-driven microsite was created to enable secure and easy uploading of news, job openings and other updates.

 

 

 

Looking beyond
The LOOK BEYOND campaign was instantly recognised as being the way forward in high-level recruitment for Winton. It captures the excitement and position which Winton needs to communicate in order to keep attracting the best minds in the business.
